Vehicles Across the GTA Franchise
GTA VI's roster is still pre-launch and confirmed vehicles keep getting added as Rockstar reveals more — it's already ahead of the original GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas and IV rosters, and close behind GTA V's 306-vehicle Story Mode (GTA Online's 800+ vehicle catalog, built up over a decade of live updates, is left out here since it isn't a fair comparison to a game's launch roster). Counts sourced from GTAbase's own per-game vehicle databases.
Every number above is counted live from the real, confirmed roster below — sourced directly from GTAbase's GTA VI vehicle database, not estimated. Tap a bar or manufacturer to filter the database below.
The RAGE Engine, Rebuilt
ConfirmedGTA VI runs on Rockstar's own Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), substantially rebuilt for current-gen hardware. You'll often see it called "RAGE 9" online — that version number is a fan/press convention, not something Rockstar itself has put a number on.
Driving Physics: GTA IV's Weight, GTA V's Accessibility
ConfirmedRockstar co-studio head Rob Nelson addressed the driving model directly when asked if GTA VI's cars feel as weighty as GTA IV's.
“Only in the best way possible. The team has worked hard to maintain some of the best parts of the weightiness and feel of GTA 4, but have the accessibility of GTA 5. It has all been built up from scratch on this hardware, and they have much more control tuning drivetrain, tires, suspension, steering — all of that is getting applied to the physics model.”
Fuel & Refueling
ConfirmedVehicles genuinely run on fuel — gas-powered cars need refueling at stations, and electric vehicles need charging. Rob Nelson confirmed the refueling animation is deliberately quick so it doesn't become a chore during normal play.
“That's pretty fast for a fill-up; you can't complain about that!”
The WAINK Scanner App
ConfirmedThe single-button hotwire is gone. Before stealing a parked car, you scan it with the in-game Waink phone app, which reads its lock type, alarm status, GPS tracker presence, resale value, and registration cost before you commit. Older cars with plain mechanical locks can be popped with a Slim Jim; modern cars with electronic immobilizers need a key-cloner tool unlocked later through story progression.
Trunk Storage & the Wanted System
Credible LeakWidely reported from Rockstar's own preview sessions with press and content creators, though not yet detailed in an official press release: your car's trunk becomes real storage for extra weapons and a change of clothes, and the wanted system tracks what police actually know about you — your face, your clothing, your vehicle — as separate clues rather than one abstract meter. Swap cars or change clothes from the trunk, and that specific clue stops applying.
